Last Friday morning a Multnomah County jury returned a unanimous verdict in favor of our client for $628,218.22. This was a soft tissue rear-end auto accident case where our client eventually had to have her back fused at the L5 and S1 vertebrae and is not done treating for her injuries three years after the car crash. The fusion came after multiple attempts at conservative treatment including physical therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, and injections. She incurred a very large amount of medical bills while missing a lot of time from work. Her family depends on her income to support her two children.
Prior to the trial the defendant’s insurance company had offered only $140,000.00, though our client’s medical bills were much more than that. I’m proud of my client’s fortitude and her trust in us to take her case to trial. My co-counsel, Robert Perkins, put in countless hours preparing this case over the last two years. His dedication to his clients is inspiring to say the least. I am also, as ever, impressed with how the jury took their job seriously, paid close attention, and asked very good questions of the lawyers during void dire and of the witnesses during the trial. The jury trial verdict ensured justice for our client and, hopefully, will prompt auto insurance companies to act more reasonably in the future when such injuries occur.
